Sarabhai Versus Sarabhai: Select Shots

One of the best comedies to hit Indian idiot boxes of late, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai...

Sarabhai vs Sarabhai...is a sitcom set in a quintessential Malabar Hill family. Sahil, the protagonist, is a cosmetic surgeon, a guy with a golden heart who can never say 'no' and gets caught between his mom and wife. Monisha, Sahil's wife, is a middle class girl, is a 'nosey' daughter of a detective.

Sahil's father, Indravadan, is a retired director of a multinational company and is really a child at heart. He often plays Narad Muni between his 'uppity' wife and bahu. Sahil's mom, Maya, likes only the crème de la crème in every aspect of her life and her family. Her bone of contention - daughter-in-law, Monisha, who is middle class.

Roshesh, Sahil's younger brother, is a mama's boy, a wannabe actor who is waiting for his mom to find the right bride. Sonya is Sahil's sister. She is deeply into tarot.

Set in this dysfunctional family, Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is a classic comedy that brings together veterans Satish Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah with Sumeet Raghavan and Rupali Ganguli.

And they (including the awards jury and the critics) find the noisy, unimaginative and slapstick Hum Paanch funny?

Deven BhojaniSarabhai vs Sarabhai is directed by Deven Bhojani, who many of us will recall as Karima from another classic comedy, Dekh Bhai Dekh. He also plays the role of Dushyant, Mara Sarabhai's son-in-law in the serial (friends say that I often act like the character). Here's some select shots from season one.

Eagerly awaiting season two. Still wondering why they took it off air in the first place?

Complete episodes are available for download at Indya.com. The introductory episode is available for free (though you need to feed in your credit card details)

Yep..Sarabhai vs Sarabhai was one of fav shows on the telly...
Deven's character in the show is the most funny, IMHO..
All in all, a pretty good comedy show which does not need to resort to slapstick to get a few laughs..

Cheers,

Sadly we don't get the channel that air's 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai', however I have caught a few of these online .. full of laughter.

I also like "Baa Bahoo aur Baby" which is directed by Deven Bhojani, his portrayal of Gattu in that show is impressive

Hi ,

Just chanced upon your blog .. really liking it….

Well Sarabhai vs Sarabhai is one of my fav shows too. Its hilarious and how, each character is brilliant and aptly chosen !.. Was surprised to read that it was directed by Deven Bhojani.

He surely seems like a multitalented guy ..I think he is brilliant as " Gattu" in Baa Bhau and Baby. Also use to like him as " Karima" in Dekh bhai Dekh

Cheers to the serial .. and I too look forward to it's Part 2 ...may be this blog could reach out request out. :-)

Cheers !

Todays telly is pretty boring, with everyone implementing the same naunces to increase TRP.

I really like the deviated approach in making S vs S, and offcourse Direction is Par Excellence, Three cheers to Deven for that.

Specially when i come home, at night , with all day time tension, and expecting some relief, S vs S is the best thing to watch, its so refreshing..

It has become like an excersise to me, to refresh myself, seeing this one..

Best,

I wish Deven will soon air the season 2 of "sarabhai"... I love t it like anything n waiting for it 2 begin again... its the funniest show which has come after "Dekh-bhai-dekh"...A clean comedy with veterans like Satish Shah n Ratna Pathak... I love their comedy timing...All the characters r unique n supreme in their own way...I love them all..I have watched its episodes repeatedly n never got bored...It has ony happened with Dekh-bhai dekh..So Sarabhai is the stres-buster 4 me...
Please..I request Deven Bhojani to begin this show again...with same actors plzzzzz..... We are waiting...
